Why You Will Love This Recipe

  • A classic dessert: A timeless dessert that feels elevated without requiring complicated techniques.
  • Rich, balanced flavor:  The contrast of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and lightly sweetened mascarpone creates depth without heaviness.
  • Make-ahead perfection: Ideal for entertaining—this dessert only gets better as it rests.

Tips and Tricks

  • Keep the dip quick: Ladyfingers should be dipped briefly—too much time in the coffee can lead to a soggy base.
  • Cold cream is key: For the best volume and structure, ensure your whipping cream is well chilled before mixing.
  • Fold gently: When incorporating the mascarpone, use a light hand to maintain a smooth, airy texture.
  • Sift for a polished finish: A fine-mesh sieve ensures an even, velvety cocoa layer that looks as good as it tastes.
  • Plan ahead: For optimal flavor and clean slices, refrigerate overnight before serving.

Instructions

Step 1

Add the whipping cream to a mixing bowl and beat on medium speed using an electric mixer or stand mixer. Slowly incorporate the sugar and vanilla, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.

Step 2

Gently fold in room temperature mascarpone cheese until smooth and fully combined. Set aside.

Step 3

In a shallow bowl, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the mixture, just enough to coat both sides without soaking.

Step 4

Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in a single layer at the bottom of an 8×8-inch (or similar) dish. Smooth half of the mascarpone cream evenly over the top. Add a second layer of dipped ladyfingers, then finish with the remaining mascarpone mixture, spreading it into a clean, even layer.

Step 5

Using a fine-mesh sieve, generously dust the top with cocoa powder for a classic, polished finish.

Step 6

Refrigerate for at least 3–4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to fully develop. Serve chilled.
