ZLINE Sponsors Big Brothers Big Sisters Gala and Funds Community Cookbook

Some of the most important work in a community happens one friendship at a time. A steady adult shows up week after week, listens, and believes in a young person before that young person fully believes in themselves.

On Saturday, September 26, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada gathered supporters at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno to celebrate that work and mark 25 years of impact. ZLINE was honored to support the nonprofit as the evening's Reception Sponsor, in addition to contributing a kitchen package to the Live Auction and a steak knife set to the Silent Auction.

Twenty-Five Years of Showing Up

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada pairs local youth (Littles) with volunteer mentors (Bigs) in one-to-one relationships built to last. The organization serves young people across Washoe, Carson City, and Lyon counties, and this year's gala marked its 25th anniversary.

For Jordan Stiteler, Events Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, the anniversary shaped every part of the planning.

"Throughout the planning process, the most important thing to us was keeping the mission at the heart of every decision," Stiteler said. "Seeing more than 1,100 people fill the Grand Sierra Resort's Summit Pavilion was incredible, but the moment that stopped me in my tracks came when 27 guests raised their paddles to become Bigs. A record-breaking night of fundraising is something we're so proud of, but 27 new mentors in one night means 27 kids off our waitlist and 27 kids in our community who will have someone in their corner."

Those new matches are part of a larger push forward. The organization is growing its High School Bigs and Big Futures programs, intending to help every Little reach success in one of three paths after high school: enrollment, employment, or enlistment.

As a company rooted in Northern Nevada, ZLINE sees the results of that work in the community we call home. It's why supporting this gala matters so dearly to us.

An Evening Built Around the Kitchen

The Big Chefs Big Gala is, fittingly, a celebration of food. Hundreds of guests moved through a culinary journey featuring some of the region's best chefs and mixologists, with savory bites at every turn and smoked "Crystal Ball" cocktails that drew a crowd of their own.

This year's gala also honored chefs Mark Estee and Colin Smith with the 2026 Osborne Community Hero Award, recognizing their long commitment to mentorship and to Northern Nevada. For ZLINE, the recognition was especially meaningful: Chef Estee has been a ZLINE partner for many years, and we've seen firsthand how much he invests in the people and community around him. It's hard to think of a better fit for the evening than two chefs who have spent years doing exactly that.

Between courses, Bigs and board members shared their own stories, and Littles joined in by video, sharing that the 25-year legacy is built one match at a time.

Our Part in the Evening

As Reception Sponsor, ZLINE helped cover the costs of the evening's reception so that the night could be everything Big Brothers Big Sisters envisioned.

We also donated a ZLINE kitchen package to the Live Auction. The package raised $10,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, with proceeds from the Live Auction and the paddle raise going directly toward funding long-term mentorships in the region.

A kitchen is where a lot of life happens: homework at the counter, conversations over dinner, and the ordinary moments that add up to a childhood. A kitchen package is a perfect prize to help fund more of those moments for kids who need someone in their corner.

Beyond the Gala: Cooking With Purpose

Our support for Big Brothers Big Sisters extended beyond the gala itself. This year, the organization published Cooking With Purpose: A Culinary Tribute to Mentorship, a hard-copy heirloom cookbook celebrating the chefs, volunteers, and donors who have shaped the Big Chefs Big Gala over the years. The book gathers recipes from Bigs and Littles alongside region-renowned figures, including Estee, Smith, Chef Charlie Palmer, and University of Nevada, Reno President and former Governor Brian Sandoval.

ZLINE provided the financial support to bring the 124-page book to print, and we opened our kitchen earlier this year so Bigs and Littles could cook their recipes together. Our in-house Creative team handled photography and food styling, capturing each dish and the matches who made them.

Reno-based professional photographer Mike Higdon, owner of Mike Higdon's Storytelling Studio, also contributed stunning photography for the book, which was first unveiled at an exclusive BBBSNN event in August, raising $170,000 that evening alone. With the book widely released on September 26, gala guests were among the first to take home a copy. Pre-orders are now available to the public.

"Working on Cooking With Purpose was one of the most rewarding projects our team has taken on," shared Nadia Liu, Creative Director at ZLINE. "Watching Bigs and Littles cook side by side in our kitchen, laughing over a recipe they'd chosen together, reminded us that the best meals are really about the people around the table. Our job was just to capture that. Seeing the finished book in guests' hands at the gala, and knowing every copy supports another match, made it all come full circle."

How to Get Involved

Our thanks to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, their staff and volunteers, the chefs and mixologists who fed the room, and every guest who bid, gave, and celebrated. Together, the evening raised record-breaking funds; enough to get 150 kids off the waitlist.

If these stories stayed with you, there are simple ways to help: become a Big, make a donation, or follow along as the organization begins its next 25 years. Learn more about Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada.
